I got an email from Lynne that they made it to China safely. Joe got sick following the 15-hour flight, but eventually fell asleep. Their guide is Connie, who also served as our guide. We loved her! Here is our favorite picture of Connie (because it's when she walked Shaling out to us):
They are also staying in the same hotel that we did, The Victory. For some pictures of the hotel, please review my post from December, The Victory Hotel & Shamian Island.
Just a reminder -- Joe & Lynne are adopting Josh & James. The trivia questions I've been posting were the ones I wrote for the trivia fundraiser for them.
On the home front, Shaling goes to see Dr. Huang tomorrow for a follow-up. He is the Ear, Nose & Throat specialist. We shall see if she needs surgery. She also has softball practice tomorrow (and volleyball, but she'll miss that due to softball). She helped me plant flowers today and she drew a picture titled "my home", with a picture of our house, including the new American flag hanging on it...a flag that she wanted us to purchase and hang. She also wrote "Go Cubs; Go Cardinals; Go Illini" on it.
She just headed up to bed, but not until after she'd really pushed for someone to sleep with her. She still doesn't like to sleep alone. She prefers to "two sleep". While many people may think she should simply feel blessed to have her own room, they should keep in mind that she live in a dorm room type of situation at the orphanage. Sleeping in a room by herself is not normal to her...and scary. We probably don't help things by letting her "two sleep" on the weekends...makes Sunday night the toughest for her.
